Why Join Kindred? Expand/Collapse

Become a Kindred Credit Union member today and experience Banking with Purpose.

Do your values guide everything you do? Do you want to share, save, and spend your money in connection with your values? If this sounds like you, then we just might be the financial partner you're looking for!

Our credit union’s values-centred approach is woven into everything we do and makes us the one-of-a-kind choice for people across Ontario who want to connect their values and faith with their finances.

Kindred has been in the making for over 50 years and it all began when a group of Mennonites had a radical vision to see mutual aid put into faithful practice – extending access to financial services across our community. That vision is lived out today through our innovative and impactful products, services, and programs.

While our roots are in the Mennonite community, we’re open to all those who want to experience Banking with Purpose. Whether that purpose is faith-inspired or rooted in values, more and more people are seeking to have all aspects of their lives aligned with their beliefs – including their finances. For Kindred, our desire is that there is purpose in everything we do.

If you’re interested in cooperative banking that connects values and faith with finances, inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities, call or visit a local branch today for more information about membership!

Ownership and Profit Shares Expand/Collapse

As a member of Kindred, you are also an Owner

When you open a membership with us, your first $25 is invested in Member Shares. This is not a fee; it's an ownership stake in Kindred. This investment belongs to you, and is refundable to you if you happen to close your membership. As a member-owner, you have an equal voice in how the credit union is run. Together, as a group of engaged members, we can ensure that Kindred continues to reflect our shared values.

Owners receive Profit Shares!

One of Kindred’s core values is stewardship. As a values-centred, faith-inspired financial cooperative, we’re called to manage the funds entrusted to us with integrity as we walk with our members on their journey to be good stewards of their finances.

For Kindred, stewardship also means choosing to give back to our members and the communities in which we live and work. We share a portion of our annual earnings with members through Profit Shares, our new name for Owner Shares. Kindred remains quite unique amongst credit unions – we continue to share a significant percent of our annual profits with members. In fact, over the last 10 years we’ve shared over $13 million with you! Beginning in 2018, Kindred will retain 75% of its 2017 core earnings and distribute 25% to our members as Profit Shares in February. Members who have accumulated $50,000 in Profit Shares receive any additional amounts as 100% cash.

Shared Convictions and Philosophy Expand/Collapse

The Shared Convictions of Global Anabaptists express beliefs that moved our founders to form a credit union with a radical vision for expanding mutual aid. Living out this vision today means connecting values and faith with finances inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities.

In March 2001 members adopted a Philosophy that draws on our Anabaptist heritage to uniquely shape our direction as a credit union. The Philosophy statement continues to motivate our work as a financial cooperative today.

You can read the Shared Convictions or our Philosophy online, or visit your local branch.
