Kindred Credit Union members, team members and branch communities came together in the month of November to donate a total of $60,200 to community organizations working to address hunger.
“The success of this year’s Kindred Fall Food Drive reflects the heart of Kindred.” says Jason Daly, Kindred CEO. “It’s people supporting each other in practical, compassionate ways and helping to ensure more neighbours have good food on their tables as we enter the Christmas season.”
Food banks are seeing sustained increases in demand for their programs and resources at record breaking levels. According to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, there has been a 21 percent increase in the number of households accessing their food hamper program in the past year.
Throughout November, our eight Kindred branches collected 250 donations totaling $31,317, as well as non-perishable food items. The number of donations was up over 47 percent from last year, and the total amount represented an extraordinary 62 percent increase. With Kindred’s matching of donations up to $3,000 per branch and some additional top-ups, including a $4,200 gift to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region’s Milk Program, we exceeded all expectations for this annual event.
The donations raised by branches and all matching funds will be distributed to local food banks in the communities we’re so fortunate to serve.
We offer our deepest thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and spread the word! You help bring our purpose to life every day.
