Fraud prevention alert: Protect yourself from identity theft

Identity Theft is a serious crime that happens more than you might think. It’s important to protect yourself and your personal information from Identity Theft. If your identity has been stolen, the fraudster can potentially open accounts or apply for credit in your name. They often use online channels but will even be bold enough to impersonate you with a Kindred staff member. Fraudsters are also able to steal other victim’s money or personal information by posing as a trusted source – you – with your stolen information!

Here are some ways you can protect yourself:

1. It’s important to be aware of the Government pieces of Identification you have in your wallet/purse.

2. Any mail you receive (statements, bills, etc.) that has your account or personal information should be shredded and not put directly into the trash can. Fraudsters can be dumpster drivers!

3. If you become aware of suspicious transactions, believe information has been compromised, or theft has occurred, immediately contact Kindred Credit Union and your credit card companies! We will gather additional information to ensure your account is protected.

4. Change your online passwords frequently and don’t repeat them. Make strong passwords of at least 15 characters , combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols for example, ILovemy2dogs!.

5. After reporting any stolen ID, watch your statements and accounts closely for unauthorized transactions (bill payments, e-Transfers, etc.)

Protecting your privacy and safeguarding your personal and financial information is just as important to us as it is to you.
