Market-Linked GICs - Frequently Asked Questions

• Is this investment right for me?

  Kindred Market-Linked GICs are suitable for members who:

  • Seek capital protection and wish to diversify their portfolio
  • Have an investment horizon of at least 3 years
  • Agree to a lower minimum guaranteed return to benefit from a higher potential return than that offered by traditional GICs

• How does this solution differ from conventional GICs?

  This guaranteed investment differs from conventional GICs in that it does not provide a pre-determined return, only a minimum guaranteed return. Return on the investment is based on the appreciation of the benchmark securities and can only be known at maturity.

• How are returns calculated?

  The investment grows depending on the market performance of a basket of underlying companies between the issue date and the maturity date, up to the maximum return. This investment is not eligible for dividends paid on the underlying securities. For full details on how the return is calculated, refer to the terms and conditions.

• What happens when my investment matures?

  On the maturity date of the GIC, the principal and any return will be credited to the account of the member’s choosing. The member can discuss available reinvestment options at maturity with a member of our Wealth and Investment team.

• Can I redeem my investment before the maturity date?

  The MLGIC options do not allow for redemption before maturity.

• What if I change my mind?

  Members may choose to cancel the request to purchase the investment up to the end of each sales period. The request to cancel can be made verbally or in writing. If the member cancels the request before the end of the sales period, the initial deposit invested by the member will be returned to them.
