Kindred’s leadership consists of three groups: the Board of Directors, a Senior Leadership Team, and the Council of Members. These teams work closely together to ensure the continuing success and sound governance of the credit union. The Board of Directors establishes Kindred’s strategic direction, monitors the overall strength and financial performance of the organization, as well as the satisfaction of members, and ensures that Kindred continues to be an engaging employer. Representing the best interests of the members, the Board works closely with the Senior Leadership Team and holds the organization accountable for its success. Guided by Kindred’s purpose, the Board applies prudent financial practices and business standards to fulfill its responsibilities to members.
The Council of Members is a committee of a minimum of eight member volunteers with representation from various Kindred branches. Each year the Council seeks volunteers for governance roles on the Board of Directors and ensures the Council of Members has a full complement. This approach to discerning qualified candidates has resulted in diverse and competent boards for Kindred, who have served the membership well and been excellent guardians of our values.
In 2025, 45% of Kindred’s Board were female. The table below includes the percent share for the two years prior.

We see housing stability as a complex, critical issue where our financial expertise can make a real difference—particularly through timely, preventative interventions.

Kindred builds relationships with community organizations through sponsorships, volunteering, and gifts-in-kind. We believe that our communities benefit from this support and that our actions inspire our staff and members to live out their values in visible ways. Our partnerships and people, our giving and programs, combine to create a unique approach that helps inspire peaceful, just, and prosperous communities.

Giving back to our communities is ingrained in what we do. So much so that Kindred gives each staff person one full volunteer day each year to donate their time to the charity of their choice.
Team members have volunteered at numerous organizations including: Ontario Mennonite Relief Sale, Ray of Hope, Elmira Maple Syrup Festival, Habitat for Humanity, Crow Shield Lodge, Sustainable Waterloo Region’s Microforest Program, and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

Kindred Credit Union has maintained a long standing partnership with Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA), which currently includes a $500,000 invested loan in MEDA Risk Capital Fund. The objective of the fund is to support MEDA’s mission by investing in promising companies and private equity funds, which benefit poor communities while having a high likelihood of financial success. The fund has several investments in microfinance institutions and strategically supports the economic, environmental and governance development of communities in emerging and developing countries.

Kindred supports a range of local events and programs related to our social impact focus themes each year. Sponsorships and grants for these initiatives typically range from $500 to $3,000. We invite connections to our branch and head office teams to learn more and explore partnership opportunities.
At Kindred, every member has access to real human advice when it comes to growing their savings and investments. Our Financial Planners take the time to listen, offer advice you can trust, and help you make confident decisions for your future, no matter where you’re starting from.
