Kindred Credit Union recognized as a Living Wage Champion
Kitchener, ON – Kindred Credit Union was recently acknowledged as a Living Wage Champion by Living Wage Waterloo Region at their annual employer recognition evening. As a Living Wage Champion, Kindred ensures that all full-time and part-time employees, including student positions, are paid at least a living wage. We also discuss and raise awareness of the importance of a living wage with organizations that we contract services from, to encourage their support in paying a living wage.
Kindred Credit Union’s chief executive officer Brent Zorgdrager said, “Paying a living wage aligns with our values and we believe our members would expect nothing less of us in caring for our staff community. It’s another tangible way that Kindred is inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities.”
Kindred was one of the Living Wage Waterloo Region steering committee’s founders and an early adopter of the living wage.
A living wage is the hourly wage a worker needs to earn to cover their basic expenses within their community. Living Wage Waterloo Region recalculates the living wage on an annual basis to ensure that it accurately reflects changing living expenses. The 2017 living wage in Waterloo Region is $15.42. Kindred has chosen to maintain our living wage at the 2016 rate of $16.05.
A living wage is good for people, good for business, and good for community. Kindred Credit Union is committed to championing the living wage within our industry and within the community.
