Kindred Sponsors Ontario Living Wage Network’s Employer Program Manager

Kitchener, ON – Kindred Credit Union is pleased to announce $10,000 in funding to the Ontario Living Wage Network (OLWN). For the second consecutive year, Kindred’s contribution will help fund a full-time program manager role at OLWN. The process to become a living wage employer can take several months and an Employer Program Manager is essential to ensure that the Living Wage movement in Ontario continues to gain momentum.

“Kindred Credit Union’s leadership and support for the Living Wage Employer Program has helped the OLWN work with employers from across Ontario to implement living wage policies for their organizations,” states Greg deGroot-Maggetti, chair of the Ontario Living Wage Network. “In the past year, 40 new businesses have been certified as living wage employers and hundreds of employees have seen an increase in their incomes, allowing them and their families to experience enhanced wellbeing as a result of being paid a living wage.”

OLWN’s core mission is to help businesses and organizations become certified living wage employers. The benefits of paying a living wage are plenty. deGroot-Maggetti notes that employers tell the OLWN that they want to pay a living wage because it is the right thing to do and it aligns with their organization’s values.

Brent Zorgdrager, Kindred’s chief executive officer, and a passionate advocate of the living wage movement, shares that “Kindred is very pleased to be able to support the OLWN Employer Program Manager. “This dedicated resource helps to ensure that local businesses in more communities across Ontario can move from good intentions to action by becoming living wage employers and making a difference in the lives of people living in their own communities.”

Kindred is committed to inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities, and its support for the OLWN is another way of living out our purpose.
